Final day. Today it’s all about everything for the remaining teams. It is not only about important points in the various championships. For many teams, a victory in Hockenheim is something like the Superbowl in European drag racing.
The FIA classes will start with the Pro Mods. The field of 16 competitors is the largest and therefore first on the track. Top qualifier Andreas Arnover from Estonia gets a run without opponents and can therefore roll comfortably along the Rico Anthes Quatermile. To everyone’s surprise for the last time this weekend, gearbox problems prevent Arnover from participating in the second round.
After four thrilling race laps with close decisions and fast times, Jan Ericsson from Sweden came out on top. The reigning champion thus sets a unique record: He is now unbeaten for 26 race laps.
The leader of the FIA Top Methanol classification, Silvio Strauch, is caught up in the first lap by the bad luck that has been plaguing him for some time. A safety component in the engine, which is supposed to prevent overpressure and thus an engine explosion, automatically shuts down the vehicle during burn out. Silvio is out of the race and loses important points in the fight for the European Championship. In the end, Johnny Oksa from Finland wins in his Funny Car with consistently good times.
Top Fuel rider Jndia Erbacher continues to run in the three-second times on Sunday. However, Ida Zetterström from Finland is one hundredth of a second faster at the right time, namely in the final, and thus wins the NitrOlymX 2023.
A small moment of shock in the Pro Stock final. After one hundred metres, the Swede Robin Norén touches the wall on his track and then crosses the track. Fortunately, only the car was damaged. All in all, this should remain the only incident that caused an interruption at the NitrOlympX 2023. Pro Stock veteran Michael Malmgren wins the class.
The action in the Super Street Bikes field is absolutely top notch. Several riders make it into the six second times and the performance increases from lap to lap. In the final, Alan Morrison Jr. from Great Britain beat Daniel Lencsés from Hungary and, with a 6.71, also scratched the latter’s record time.
There was also a German winner in one of the FIM-E classes: Jörg Lymant improved his performance in the Pro Stock Bikes from race to race and beat Bertrand Maurice from France in the final. The 7.283 that were necessary for this are at the same time a new personal best time. The first German victory in an Em race for many, many years.
With the finals of all Sportsman classes a great race weekend comes to an end, which has left nothing but positive impressions on the teams and the fans. Great motorsport at the highest level and a unique show – only the NitrOlympX can do that. And in 2024, the Motodrom around the Rico Anthes Quatermile will once again be full to bursting with 12,000 horsepower bolides. A must for every fan of petrol and fast vehicles.
